Farmers in the provinces of Pangasinan and Ilocos Sur will be awarded Php87.3M worth of interventions from the Department of Agriculture during Secretary William Dar’s visit in Region 1 on May 28 – 29.
These projects are collective initiatives from the five DA Banner Programs – Corn, Rice, Livestock, Organic Agriculture, and High Value Crops Development.

In the province of Pangasinan, 12,660 bags of hybrid rice seeds and other interventions amounting to more than Php 56M are ready for distribution to rice farmers of Bayambang, Calasiao, Malasiqui, Mapandan, Sta. Barbara, and San Carlos City.

Identified farmer beneficiaries in Binalonan and Mangaldan will be given 378 bags of yellow corn seeds amounting to Php 2M.

Two units pump & engine set and six units grain collector/bagger amounting to Php 1.2M is also scheduled for turn-over to corn farmers of Balungao, Binalonan, and Malasiqui.

Being the first DA-assisted organic farm in the Ilocos Region, the Agas-Bukid Farm owned by Mr. Cesar Paragas of Mangatarem will similarly be awarded its certification as licensed by the Organic Certification Center of the Philippines.

As for Ilocos Sur province, certified rice seeds amounting to Php 6.5M will be given to cover 4,310 hectares of rice areas in the municipalities of Sta. Maria, Burgos, Santiago, and Narvacan.

One pump & engine set and two units grain collector/bagger amounting to Php589,864 is ready for awarding to farmers of Santiago, Burgos, and Sta. Lucia.

Part of Secretary Dar’s visit is also the groundbreaking ceremony for the poultry and goat multiplier farm at the Ilocos Sur Polytechnic State College, Sta. Maria Campus. The project has fund amounting to Php10M.

At the same time, ISPSC, along with Northern Ilocos Sur Cooperative of Cabugao will also be receiving a funding grant amounting to Php 2.5M each for the implementation of the Bamboo Industry Development project.

Moreover, a mango productivity enhancement project worth more than Php5M will be turned-over to the Mango Stakeholders Association of Ilocos Sur.
