Before the year ends, farmers in the Province of La Union receive their early holiday gifts as the Department of Agriculture in Ilocos Region hands in more than P800,000 worth of agricultural machinery and interventions to 10 farmers’ cooperatives and associations last Friday.
Led by Mr. Juanito Malazo, Jr., the Agricultural Programs Coordinating Officer for La Union, the distribution ceremonies were held at the Ilocos Region Integrated Agricultural Research Center (ILIARC) in Bacnotan, La Union and in Tubao, La Union.
The interventions distributed include multi-crop tresher, multi-purpose shredder and cultivator, pump and engine sets, hammer mill, brush cutters, and power sprayer, among others.
Among the recipients are farmers’ groups from the municipalities of Bacnotan, Luna, San Gabriel, San Juan, and San Fernando City, and Bagulin, Bauang, Pugo and Rosario who are beneficiaries under the Rice and Livestock Banner Programs of DA, and Organic Agriculture and 4K or the Kabuhayan at Kaunlaran ng Kababayang Katutubo.
Alongside Mr. Malazo is Ms. Maybelyn Libong of the Organic Agriculture Program, Mr. Ramon Torres from the office of Rep. Francisco Paolo Ortega, and a representative from the office of Congressman Dante Garcia.###
