The Ilocos Region bagged four awards at the recently concluded 10th National Agriculture and Fisheries Volunteers’ Day celebration, an annual event hosted by the Philippine Council for Agriculture and Fisheries (PCAF) to recognize its national network of consultative bodies, including the Agricultural and Fishery Councils (AFCs) and the National Sectoral Committees (NSCs).

Ms. Doris Joy Garcia, Planning and Monitoring Division Chief of the Department of Agriculture – Regional Field Office 1, was named first runner-up in the Outstanding Regional Agriculture and Fisheries Council (AFC) Executive Officer category. Ms. Jenelle Idica, Provincial AFC coordinator of Ilocos Sur, placed as first runner-up for the Outstanding Regional PAFC Coordinator award.

Meanwhile, Ms. Florencia Mendoza, the City AFC Coordinator for the City of San Fernando, was awarded second runner-up in the Outstanding CAFC Chairperson category. Mr. Rodolfo Abao, the Provincial AFC Chairperson of the Province of La Union, was recognized as one of the esteemed Pillars of Consultative Bodies

Through this annual celebration, PCAF gives due recognition to the valuable contributions of volunteers in helping the Department of Agriculture modernize the sector’s value chain and uplift the lives of Filipino farmers, fishers, and their communities.

Bearing the theme “Celebrating a Decade of Volunteer Recognition in the Agri-Fishery Sector,” the event took place in Cebu on December 3, 2024.
