In conjunction with the celebration of Farmers’ and Fisherfolk’s month this May, the Department of Agriculture – Ilocos Region conducted the Annual Rice Achiever’s Awarding for the 32 agricultural extension workers in the four provinces of Region I.
On separate dates and venues, the initial awarding activity was held on April 14, 2021 at the Northview Hotel in Laoag City, Ilocos Norte, followed by the awarding on May 5, 2021 at the Hotel Linda, Vigan City in the province of Ilocos Sur, and May 7,2021 at Ariana Hotel and Restaurants for the provinces of La Union and Pangasinan. The awarding ceremonies aimed at recognizing the contributions and performance of the extension workers in attaining significant rice production accomplishments for their respective provinces.
In her message during the awarding ceremonies held for La Union, Director Erlinda F. Manipon once more underscored the essential role of the Provincial and Municipal Local Government agricultural extension workers in helping realize DA’s mission towrds food security in the country.
Leading the awardees are the Provincial Agriculturists with the six (6) agri-extension workers for the province of Pangasinan, 11 in La Union, one (1) in Ilocos Sur and six (6) agri-extension workers in the province of Ilocos Norte.
Included in the honorees are the four outstanding Local Farmer Technicians from Sta. Barbara and Binalonan, Pangasinan in the persons of Mr. Elizer Salibo and Mr. Elmo Baniqued as well as Ms. Elnora Gonzales and Mr. Henry Saliganan from Currimao, Ilocos Norte and Cabugao, Ilocos Sur, respectively.
The Rice Achiever’s Award is an annual activity of the DA as a way to recognize the efforts of outstanding rice producers in the country by providing incentives for provinces/municipalities and cities, irrigators associations, small water irrigation systems associations, agricultural extension workers and local farmer technicians and likewise encourage further commitment and participation to attain the government’s food sufficiency thrust.##
