PANGASINAN – The Department of Agriculture – Regional Field Office 1 (DA-RFO 1) successfully conducted a three-day massive spraying operation using botanical insecticides to combat the onion armyworm infestation in Pangasinan on February 4-5 and 7, 2025.

The intervention targeted over 138 hectares of affected onion farms, covering 48 hectares in Brgys. Vacante, San Pedro, and Atainan, Alcala; 30 hectares in Brgy. Diaz, Bautista; 60 hectares in Brgy. San Gabriel 2nd, Bayambang.

To educate and assist farmers, DA-RFO 1 also conducted a demonstration activity on the proper application of organic pesticides, ensuring that affected farmers adopt effective and sustainable pest control methods.

Experts recommend that the best time for spraying is either in the morning or around 3 PM to maximize effectiveness. Moving forward, the DA plans to expand this intervention across all affected areas in the region to prevent further crop damage and protect farmers’ livelihoods.

For further assistance, farmers are encouraged to coordinate with their local agriculture offices or DA-RFO 1 for guidance on pest management strategies.
