A technical briefing for the implementation of the Mango Industry Productivity Enhancement Project under the Bayanihan II fund was conducted recently by the Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office 1 on the four provinces of the region.
Under the said project, P30-M fund was allocated to boost and enhance the mango productivity in Ilocos.
Per record of the Philippine Statistics Authority, around 178,540 metric tons of mangoes is produced by the region in 2019 from an area of 17,000 hectares. In terms of volume of production, region 1 ranks as the highest producer contributing to 24% to the national production.
Aside from the technical briefing, machineries and equipments were also turned-over to mango growers such as drone sprayer, power sprayer, and ladder. Mango bagging materials, pesticides and fungicides were also provided to control pest and diseases of mangoes.
Trainings will also be given to upgrade the knowledge and skills of mango growers.
Meanwhile, RTD for Operations, Ms. Erlinda F. Manipon, further emcouraged farmers to partner with DA and support further development of the industry. “Together we can achieve more.”, she said#
