The Department of Agriculture in Ilocos Region through the High Value Crops Development Program has distributed various vegetable seeds and seedlings to selected beneficiaries as part to this year’s High Value Crops (HVC) Week celebration this second week of April.
Nine kinds of vegetables were among the distributed items benefiting 15 selected farmers cooperatives and associations in the province of Pangasinan to include the school heads of the Gulayan sa Paaralan implementers, 4H Clubs members as well as some agricultural extension workers.
Among the vegetables distributed include tomatoes, eggplants, squash, pole sitao, okra, ampalaya, upo, kangkong and pechay with a total value at P175,900.
To provide the technical know-how in growing these vegetables, the HVCDP Group led by Mr. David John Rondal conducted demonstration/hands-on lecture on soil media preparation, vegetable seed sowing, actual vegetable field planting and mango marcotting.
The vegetable seed and seedlings distribution, including the conduct of hands-on demonstration are among the activities being undertaken by the HVCDP Group in support to the DA’s Plant Plant Plant Program to increase the productivity level of vegetables in the region as well as raising farmers’ income through high value crops production.
