The Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office One (DA-RFO1), through its Adaptation and Mitigation Initiative in Agriculture (AMIA) program, launched the 𝘈𝘨𝘳𝘰-𝘊𝘭𝘪𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘤 𝘈𝘥𝘷𝘪𝘴𝘰𝘳𝘺 𝘗𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘢𝘭 (𝘈𝘊𝘈𝘗) to 30 LGUs from the Province of La Union as the last stop for the two-day training workshop held at J & V Hotel and Resort, City of San Fernando, La Union on October 8-9, 2024.

Previously held at San Carlos, Pangasinan last September 19-20; Laoag, Ilocos Norte last September 24-25; and Vigan, Ilocos Sur last September 26-27 to encompass all LGUs of Region I, the AMIA introduces the ACAP website and Climate Risk Vulnerability Assessment (CRVA) to La Union LGUs to be subsequently introduced to farmers with the goal of climate resilient agriculture in the region.

The 𝘈𝘨𝘳𝘰-𝘊𝘭𝘪𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘤 𝘈𝘥𝘷𝘪𝘴𝘰𝘳𝘺 𝘗𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘢𝘭 (𝘈𝘊𝘈 𝘗) is a website developed as part of the initiative of the DA-AMIA, the University of Los Baños Foundation Incorporated (UPLBFI) and Alliance Bioversity & CIAT. It is a portal that aims to distribute agro- climatic advisories to farmers with ease. It is directly connected to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Agency (PAG-ASA), allowing access to a ten-day whether forecast useful for field farmers to map their farming activities.

It also includes tropical cyclone information and bulletin; droughts, and rainfall forecasts; cropping calendars that shows crop activity from preparation stage to maturity; Seasonal recommendations in the six-month period like climate risks and impact outlooks; and additionally, the convenience of exporting said information to PDF files in order to be printed and disseminated to interested farmers. Farmers and individuals may also register for SMS notifications.

The Climate Risk Vulnerability Assessment (CRVA) on the other hand, is focused on the survivability of crops, biophysical indicators within the sensitivity and hazard index, and adaptive capacities of cities and municipalities. It assesses the overall vulnerability of crops in different locations using indexes useful for planning for future planting ventures. It is an initiative developed with information gathered from different agencies such as the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Mines and Geosciences Bureau, Bureau of Soils and Water Management (BSWM, and the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).

These two-day training workshops of ACAP aim to mainstream the portal into the daily processes of local farming so that they may be used for the goal of a climate resilient agriculture in the Philippines.
