Agricultural and Fishery Council (AFC) leaders, farmers, and representatives of DA Banner Programs convened to deliberate concerns in the Agricultural and Fishery Sectors during the Regional Agricultural and Fishery Council (RAFC) 2nd Sectoral Committee Meeting held at the Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office One (DA-RFO1) BAC Conference Room in April 29, 2024.
Spearheaded by the Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office One (DA-RFO1) through the Regional Agricultural and Fishery Council (RAFC), the meeting sought to discuss sectoral concerns, highlighting issues and threats in the agri-fishery sector. The council, as well as representatives, agreed upon importation being the number one threat to local farmers and consumers alike.
The meeting also reviewed agenda items such as low salt production in Region 1 and the limitations in support mechanisms and interventions to assist onion and garlic farmers. Proposed solutions include collaboration with academic bodies in research, feasibility studies, the invitation of resource speakers, and resolutions to regulate onion and shallot importation during peak harvest season.
High-value crop seeds were given to the participants in appreciation for their ever-continuing support and dedication as monitoring partners of DA to ensure that programs and projects are delivered accordingly to farmer-beneficiaries in the region.
