The Department of Agriculture in Ilocos turned-over today P28.57 million worth of various agricultural interventions to various farmers association and cooperatives in Ilocos Sur with Second District Congressman Representative Kristine Singson-Meehan and DA-RFO I Regional Executive Director Annie Bares.

From among the four major Commodity Programs in the region along with the four special projects of DA, the Corn Program provided the highest amount with a total of P20.1 million worth of agri-interventions in the form of various inputs such as hybrid and open pollinated varieties of corn, soil ameliorants, pump and engine sets as well as urea fertilizers.

The high value crops development program also provided the farmers various farming equipment and inputs such as plastic crates, foliar and complete fertilizers for the rehabilitation of mango areas in the province.

Plastic drums, upgraded goats and cattle fatteners as well as botanical pesticides were also added to these interventions provided for by the National Urban and Peri-Urban Agriculture Program (NUPAP), Special Area for Agricultural Development (SAAD), Adaptation and Mitigation Initiative in Agriculture (AMIA) Program as well as 4K or Kabuhayan at Kaunlaran ng Kababayang Katutubo Program.

Joining the distribution of the various agri interventions is Candon Mayor Eric Singson and Sta. Lucia Mayor Joseph Simon Valdez.
