In a series of distribution activities conducted by DA-Ilocos to support the productivity of ilocano farmers, the province of Ilocos Sur also received its share of interventions from the DA’s National Urban and Pre-Urban Agriculture Project amounting to P509,760.00.

Held at the Ilocos Sur Provincial Farmers and Development Center on May 26, 2023 four eligible farmers associations from the cities of Candon and Vigan and the municipality of Santa received upgraded breeds of goat (6 does and 2 bucks) each as part of the package of interventions from the NUPAP Program.

The NUPAP program is one of the latest program of DA that encourages urban dwellers to engage in integrated farming through backyard gardening and livestock raising which form part of the interventions under the said program where vegetable seeds and goat are provided to recipients.

Previously the DA-NUPAP has already distributed vegetable seeds and garden tools to selected recipients in support to the establishment of comunity gardens regionwide.

Amounting to Php15,930 per head, with breeds like Saanen, Anglo Nubian, Toggenberg among others, these upgraded breeds given are used to improve the existing common native breeds that the FCAs have in their locality.

Joining the distribution in Vigan are NUPAP officials from the DA-Central Office led by Ms. Philline Alexa Yap and Ms. Lemarie Bautista, Provincial Veterinarian, Dr. Donna Rosario NUPAP Focal Person in Ilocos Sur, Ms. Maricar Bongais and Agricultural Programs Coordinating Officer (APCO) for Ilocos Sur, Mr. Jomar Dayap.
