The Department of Agriculture – Ilocos Region thru the Balik Probinsya, Bagong Pag-asa Program and Adaptation and Mitigation Initiative in Agriculture, in partnership with the Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University-Institute of Agribusiness Management conducted a two-day capability training on financial management and bookkeeping for BP2 recipients which aims to mainstream climate change mitigation strategies in agriculture. It will likewise address the issues on the adverse effects of climate change in the agriculture sector.
The DA has been establishing BP2 reintegration sites for current and future Balik Probinsya recipients using the AMIA approach, a science-based rural development approach that has been proven effective in increasing productivity and income to ensure that there would be opportunities waiting for the BP2 beneficiaries upon returning to provinces.
A total of 32 out of 20 targeted farmer-participants which included the AEWs from the different municipalities of Pangasinan for BP2/AMIA villages, actively participated in the said training held on September 1-2 2022 at Barangay Magtaking, Kabaleyan Cove Hotel and Resort.
During the training, Ms. Jahnnela Faith Bonilla, BP2 technical staff, presented the rationale and overview of the BP2 which also includes the accomplishment for CY 2021.
Meanwhile, Dr. Arnelie G. Laquidan, Dr. Joana N. Quinquito, and Ms. Leny Grace C. Garcia, faculty from the Institute of Agribusiness Management of the Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University (DMMMSU) discussed the “Concepts on Agribusiness Financial Literacy, Identifying Business Along Value Chain, Farm Record Keeping and Bookkeeping” and ” Business Model Canvass” as a way to improve their mindset as enablers and partners to attain the goals on food security and sufficiency in the region.
Other related topics tackled in the training include Importance of Cooperativisim by Cooperative Development Authority, Taxation for Cooperatives and Associations from Bureau of Internal Revenue, Lending Programs of the Agricultural Credit Policy Council and DA programs, projects and activities by the training management team.
Furthermore, Participatory Climate Resiliency and Vulnerability Appraisal will be conducted to gather baseline data for the identification and prioritization of their future needs.
