Eight farmers & fisherfolk organizations from the City of San Fernando in La Union displayed their culinary expertise via a cooking competition sponsored by the City Government thru the City Agriculture office held at the San Fernando City Plaza on May 24,2022.
The activity is part of the month-long celebration of Farmers’ & Fisherfolk Month giving due recognition and importance to farmers and fisherfolk on their significant contributions to the country’s economic growth.
The competing groups were divided into two categories, the Farmers Dish category and the Seafood category for the Fisherfolk group.
Winners in the Farmers dish category were farmers group from Brgy. Apaleng of District 12 as 1st place winner; followed by Brgy. Sibuan-Otong of Ditrict 8 as second place winner; and Brgy. Cabaroan of District 9 as 3rd place winner.
For the Seafood category of the fisherfolk group, the winners were Brgy. Lingsat as 1st place winner; Brgy. Ilocanos Norte as second-place winner; and Brgy. San Francisco is 3rd place winner. Also declared as consolation prizes are Brgys. Poro and San Agustin.
Also currently ongoing is the Poster Making Contest for the youth centering on the celebration’s theme “Modernisasyon at Industriyalisasyon tungo sa Masaganang Ani at Mataas na Kita.
The month of May is annually celebrated as Farmers & Fisherfolk Month by virtue of Presidential Proclamation No. 33 which aims to pay tribute and give recognition to the significant role of farmers and fisherfolk to the development of the local agriculture sector.
The San Fernando City Agriculture Office headed by City Agriculturist Dr. Mary Jane Alcedo has tapped the support of the DA-RFO I in the various activities being conducted highlighting the celebration of the farmers & fisherfolk month.##
