With production and income as the main focus of farmers and fishers, the Department of Agriculture – Regional Field Office 1 urged consumers to buy local produce to support the agri-entrepreneurs in marketing their products.
As Farmers and Fisherfolk’s Month is being celebrated this May, the DA once again highlights and commends their contribution to the agriculture sector.
“Nagpapsalamat po kami sa inyo dahil sa patuloy na pag-alalay sa ating nagkakaisang adhikain na mapanatili ang food sufficiency sa bansa (We thank you for continuously upholding our goal to maintain the country’s food sufficiency),” Regional Executive Director Nestor Domenden said applauding the farmers and fishers who participated in the KADIWA ni Ani at Kita Retail Selling.
Despite the short notice, farmers’ associations and cooperatives participated in the retail selling conducted at the DA-RFO 1 ground as part of the celebration of Farmers’ and Fisherfolk Month in the region.
Meanwhile, Regional Technical Director Erlinda Manipon encouraged the consumers not to bargain for lower prices of agri-fishery products as everyone is coping with the ill effects of the pandemic and other global and economic issues.
“Huwag na sana tayong tumawad sa kanilang paninda dahil hindi naman masyadong mataas (Let us not haggle with farmers and fishers’ produce anymore). That is one way of supporting them,” Manipon said.
They also applauded the local government units who continuously serve as partners of the agency in the promotion and development of the agri-fishery industry.
DA-RFO I simultaneously conducted its kick-off activity with the DA Central Office and other Regional Field offices for the celebration of Farmers’ and Fisherfolk Month this May.
Several activities such as the conduct of Agri-industry Forum and Farmers & Fisherfolk Forum, among others, are set to highlight the celebration and give importance to the significant contributions of the “food heroes” to the nation’s economy.
The Kadiwa ni Ani at Kita Retail Selling is being held every Wednesday at the DA-RFO 1 ground where fresh agricultural produce is being sold at a lower price.
Today, 13 FCAs from different municipalities in the region participated in the KADIWA retail selling. ###
