In support to the implementation/ enforcement of the Food Safety Act of 2013, the DARFO1’s Food Safety Unit together with the Regulatory Division, officially launched the Bar Coding of the PhilGAP Certified Produce.
With guidance from DA-RFO I OIC Regional Executive Director Nestor Domenden and staff, together with LGU officials of Alcala, Pangasinan, the launching was conducted in the farm of Mr. Gregorio Quintela and Mr. Norberto Danzil in Alcala, Pangasinan.
Bar coding using the Philtrace System will have a great impact in the implementation of the PhilGAP program since their produce will have a unique identification by providing stickers which shows the producer (farm name), origin (address), crop-variety, batch code and date harvested.
Aside from identification, bar coding is also very useful for traceability purposes and to create awareness for the public on the presence of PhilGAP Certified Products.
The Ilocos Region is the first region in the country that piloted the launching of the PhilGAP Barcoding System.##
