In a major step toward positioning the Ilocos Region as a competitive hub for the Halal industry, the Department of Agriculture – Regional Field Office I (DA-RFO I) hosted the Region 1 Halal Technical Working Group (TWG) 1st Semester CY 2026 Meeting on March 26, 2026.

The meeting, held at the DA-RFO I Conference Room, brought together key leaders and stakeholders to synchronize efforts in promoting Halal integrity and agricultural excellence. A primary highlight of the event was the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) Signing for Halal Certification, signifying a formal commitment to upgrading regional standards.

Representing Regional Executive Director Fidel L. Libao, Regional Technical Director for Operations, Engr. Dennis I. Tactac emphasized the DA’s role in ensuring the foundation of the Halal value chain. Joining him was DTI-RO1 Regional Director Merlie D. Membrere, who underscored the importance of cross-agency cooperation in opening new markets for local producers.
