In partnership with Pangasinan farmers for its pilot site, One Rice PH successfully concluded its expanded on-farm technology demonstration (EOFTD) for transplanted rice in Brgy. San Joaquin, Balungao on March 13, 2026.
The project introduced newly developed inbred rice varietiesโ€”NSIC RC 624, 622, 628, and 604โ€”directly to farmers for trials in a five-hectare area.
These varieties are suitable for irrigated lowland farming and are applicable for both wet and dry seasons.
Results of the preference scoreboard and sensory evaluation during the field day revealed NSIC RC 628 as the farmers’ top choice.
In this initiative, Pangasinan farmers were provided with site-specific recommendations on planting and fertilizer application, including other inputs.
Similar farm technology demonstrations, based on these outcomes, are therefore slated for establishment in all four provinces of Ilocos Region during this yearโ€™s wet season.
One Rice PH is a collaborative project between the International Rice Research Institute, Philippine Rice Research Institute, University of the Philippines Los Baรฑos, Department of Agriculture, and other government agencies. The project aims to accelerate the production of rice varieties that can withstand climate change and provide higher yields to farmers.
