December 6, 2021 – The Department of Agriculture-Regional Project Coordination Office I (DA-RPCO I) turned over today the P18.5 million worth of Philippine Rural Development Project (PRDP) interventions to the Kailian Multi-Purpose Cooperative of Lidlidda, Ilocos Sur as project recipient of the Goat Multiplier Farm and Trading Post under PRDP’s IREAP Component.

The PRDP interventions which were turned over and awarded to the cooperative include Goat stocks, inputs with forage and pasture production support; Goat Trading and Marketing Facility with 6-wheeler hauling truck, tractor, grass cutter and Digital platform weighing scale; and the Multiplier farm under which is the Goat house, Quarantine Building, Forage chopper, and water system, among others.

The awarding ceremony was held at the Coop’s project site in Banayoyo, Ilocos Sur and was graced by Ilocos Sur Board Member Benjamin Maggay representing Governor Ryan Luis Singson, together with Banayoyo Mayor Virgilio Galanga, Lidlidda Mayor Sherwin P. Tomas and, DA-RFO I Research Division Chief Dr. Gilbert Rabara who represented DA-RFO I OIC-Regional Executive Director Nestor D. Domenden.

β€œWith the very high standards of project implementation by the PRDP, qualifying for a PRDP enterprise means you passed the rigorous test that include documentary, financial, social, mental and physical. You are now part of a world class project and this is something that you should be proud of.”, said Domenden in his message as read by Dr. Rabara.

Meanwhile, Gov. Singson, thru Board Member Maggay lauded the Kailian MPC for overcoming all the challenges in order to qualify for the PRDP. He also thanked the DA-PRDP for a very timely intervention since such project would certainly be a good livelihood alternative for the ASF stricken livestock raisers in the province.

Of the total project cost worth P18.5 million, P10.2M was provided through the World Bank; P3.4 million each were funded by the Department of Agriculture and the Provincial Local Government Unit of Ilocos Sur; and P3.7 million worth in cash and kind as the PG Equity.

According to DA-RPCO I, with the successful implementation of the enterprise, the computed benefit will redound to an increase in farmers’ income by about 186%.

This PRDP subproject is by far the second largest IREAP subproject in Ilocos Region next to the IREAP subproject awarded to the Bacarra Zanjera MPC in Ilocos Norte with a project cost of P23M.
