Alcala wows the crowed with the P115,435,580.50 worth of programs, projects and interventions for turn-over, award and raffle to various farmers and irrigators associations recipients. Among these projects are the Small Water Impounding Projects (SWIP), Farm to Market Roads (FMR), farm machineries and equipment such as 4-wheel drive tractors, hand tractors, pump and engine sets and collapsible dryers. Assorted vegetables as well as bottom set gillnet and tilapia fingerlings in support to the high value commercial crops program and fisheries sector was also awarded to the farmer and fisherfolk beneficiaries. Included in the raffle are: knapsack power sprayers, pump and engine sets, farmalite, carabao with implements, native piglets and goats.|
Joining forces to strengthen the mango industry while positively responding to the pressing issues and concerns of the major industry players, the Department of Agriculture-Regional Field Office I in collaboration with the Philippine Mango Industry Foundation, Inc. (PMIFI) and the Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte hosted the 18th National Mango Congress and Summit Workshop 2016.
DA REGION 1 HOSTS LUZON AFC CONGRESS
TheDepartment of Agriculture – Region I, in coordination with the Philippine Council for Agriculture & Fisheries (PCAF), gathered together the Agriculture & Fishery Councils (AFCs) of Luzon in a successful AFC Luzon Congress held on September 16-17, 2015 at One Vittoria Hotel, Bantay, Ilocos Sur.
Focusing on the theme “AFCs: Sumasabay sa Hamon ng Makabagong Panahon”, the Congress aims to highlight the efforts of the AFCs as integral partners of DA in ensuring a smooth and proper implementation of the various programs and projects for the agriculture and fishery sector in the regions.
The presence of Senator Cynthia A. Villar, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Agriculture and Food who was invited as the Keynote Speaker during the event gave more significance to the conduct of the activity.
Expressing her full support to the AFCs as voluntary leaders of the agri-sector, Sen. Villar encouraged them to be strong and resilient amidst the challenges and changes that the industry is facing. “Kailangan sumabay tayo hindi lamang sa hamon ng makabagong panahon kundi pati sa pagbabago sa sector ng agrikultura”, she challenged. She assured that as the current Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Agriculture & Food, “in the best of my ability, I support farmers and fisherfolk as well as other industry stakeholders to cope with all the changes and challenges confronting them and our industry.”, she added.
