When COVID–19 was declared as a pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the government subsequently declared Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) in the entire Luzon area, a village up north remained calm and unfazed by the possible threat of food inadequacy as access to public market became a struggle.
In an effort to attain the 586,936 metric tons corn production target for CY 2020 in Ilocos region both in yellow and white corn, the Department of Agriculture-Regional Field Office I led by Regional Executive Director Lucrecio Alviar, Jr. encouraged corn farmers to engage in planting off-season corn with the distribution of OPV white corn seeds in areas suitable for corn production this season.

Individuals interested to join our Plant Plant Plant Program thru Urban Gardening may avail their free vegetable seedlings at the PREC-Sual station. Seedlings for distribution are:
OPV: tomato, hotpepper (panigang), eggplant
HYBRID: tomato, eggplant, and hotpepper (pinatubo)
On Friday (May 8, 2020) 15 farmer beneficiaries in Ilocos Sur received 85 heads of goat amounting to 1.28 million which is part of the Innovative Family Enterprise Development (IFED) Project of DA-RFO I under its goat production component.
To all interested individuals who may want to have their own vegetable garden at home, the Department of Agriculture- Pangasinan Research & Experiment Center (PREC) in Sta. Barbara, Pangasinan is ready to distribute more vegetable seedlings (okra, pepper, eggplant, squash) ready for planting.
No requirements needed, just wear your mask, and practice social distancing!
