Mr. Joey Ramos, Region I’s nominee to the country’s Search for Outstanding Seed Innovator - Seed Grower Category
Twelve years after being named as the country’s Gawad Saka Most Outstanding Rice Farmer in 2002, Mr. Joey Ramos of Brgy. Tay-ac, Rosario La Union is again aspiring for another title – this time as the country’s Most Outstanding Seed Grower through the Bureau of Plant and Industry’s (BPI’s) Search for Outstanding Seed Innovator.
In the recently conducted Philippine Rural Development Project (PRDP) North Luzon Cluster General Assembly held in Subic, Zambales, the Project Support Office (PSO)-Luzon A recognized the best efforts of the four Regional Project Coordinating Offices (RPCOs) under the Luzon A Cluster in terms of project implementtions for PRDP.
Joining efforts to meet the increasing demand vis a vis addressing the declining supply of garlic commodity in the country, researchers of the Department of Agriculture-Regional Field Office I through the Ilocos Norte Research & Experiment Center (INREC) based in Batac City, Ilocos Norte are currently conducting six (6) garlic-related research studies that aim to expand potential areas for garlic production and enhancing the growth and yield of garlic in the region.
Nine (9) seed companies participated during the Hybrid Rice Derby conducted by the Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office 1 in a 10 hectare model farm located in Barangay Pila, Laoag City on January 25, 2019.
In 2017, the Department of Agriculture launched its flagship program on easy loan access for farmers and fisherfolk. With its 98% repayment rate since 2018, the Agri-credit loan programs are now made available nationwide to continuously support the needs of the marginal farmers and fisherfolk in the country.
