Ensuring the successful conduct of the Participatory Varietal Selection Researcher-Managed Trials (PVS-RM) under the Next-Gen Project of the Philippine Rice Research Institute (PhilRice) and the International Research Institute (IRRI), the DA-Ilocos Norte Research & Experiment Center (INREC) in collaboration with the representatives of both rice research agencies conducted a 3-day monitoring and evaluation of the four field trials established in Ilocos Region on February 19-21, 2019.

Responding to the marching orders of DA-RFO I Regional Executive Director Lucrecio R. Alviar, Jr. to intensify researches that would benefit farmers in Ilocos Region, the DA-RFO I Research Division doubled efforts in establishing Community-Based Participatory Action Research (CPAR) projects in the region. One of which is the CPAR project at Nansuagao and Tamurong, Caoayan, Ilocos Sur with 23 farmer cooperators. CPAR projects are done where community members and researchers are partners in achieving a common goal of improving productivity and income of farmers.
