In the agribusiness sector, the most effective marketing tool is communication.Hence, tapping on the efficiency of communication tools in strengthening the marketing opportunities for agriculture commodities, the Department of Agriculture – Agribusiness Marketing Assistance Services (DA-AMAS), in partnership with the Information and Technology Center of Agriculture and Fisheries (ITCAF), is implementing the Agriculture & Fisheries Market Information System (AFMIS) to provide timely, accurate and reliable market information to various stakeholders in the food sector.
On April 6, 2011, the Department of Agriculture-Regional Field Unit I welcomed its new OIC - Regional Executive Director in the person of Dir. Renato Maguigad in lieu of the transfer of assignment of outgoing director Atty. Cipriano Santiago to MIMAROPA Region. Barely seven months have passed, new changes in the leadership was once again thrust forward with the designation of Valentino Perdido as the new OIC RED of the DA in the region.
With the turn of events, the official turn-over was held on November 14, 2011. Outgoing OIC-RED Maguigad relinquished his duties and responsibilities to Dir. Perdido as the 10th director of the agency since 1980.

Basista, Pangasinan- Seemingly smitten by his good humour and positive attitude, the presence of Department of Agriculture Secretary Proceso J. Alcala added up to the festive mood of the people of Basista, Pangasinan as they celebrated the 50th Founding Anniversary of their municipality last September 5, 2011 held at the Basista Municipal Gymnasium, Basista, Pangasinan.
Sec. Alcala was the invited guest speaker during the event who was declared as “adopted son of Basista, Pangasinan” after his speech, and was awarded with plaque of appreciation by Basista Mayor Manolito S. De Leon.
Keeping up with a management strategy which he termed as “management by going around”, Department of Agriculture Secretary Proseso J. Alcala intends to lead the agriculture sector by touching-base with his prime clients, the farmers and fisherfolk, to personally gain insight on their actual needs, concerns and activities and make appropriate actions and interventions suited for each situation and area of the farming sector in the country.
