The Department of Agriculture-Regional Field Unit I through its Gender and Development (GAD) Coordinating Office joined the nation in celebrating March as Women’s Month with the theme, “Juana, ang tatag mo ay tatag natin sa pagbangon at pagsulong.”

Held on March 31, 2014, the celebration was highlighted by several contested and worthwhile activities that actively participated in by the DA-RFO I employees.

One of the highlights of the event is the launching of the Search for Outstanding Rural Women in Agriculture. In the said launching, Search for Outstanding Rural Women in Agriculture (SORWA) Committee Chairman, Ms. Gloria Parong discussed the guidelines and criteria for evaluation of the Search to encourage everyone's participation especially in nominating rural women who have performed excellently in her chosen field that tremendously created a great impact in agricultural development.

on Animal Welfare in compliance to OIEAs its one way of preparing the Ilocos Region to comply with the Amended Republic Act 8485 otherwise known as the Improved Animal Welfare Act of 1998, the Department of Agriculture-Regional Field Office I through its Regulatory Division conducted two batches of seminars on Proper Handling of Laboratory Animals in the conduct of Scientific Procedures and the Improved Animal Welfare Program in the Transport of Farm Animals for Slaughter at the Candon Hotel in Candon City, Ilocos Sur.

Successively held on February 25-28, 2014, the the four-day live-in seminar was participated in by the instructors of the private and public colleges and universities in the region, Animal Welfare Officers, Livestock Inspectors of the Local Government Units, Quarantine Officers as well as the livestock handlers, animal shippers and traders of the Ilocos Region.

The DA-RFO 1 Cheer-dance Group in one of their winning cheer-dance stunts during the 4th leg DA-Cluster Team Building hosted by DA-RFO 4-B held at Tagaytay City, Rizal where they were adjudged as 1st place winner. The DA-Cluster Team building is a friendly sports-fest organized by DA-Regions I and III aimed at fostering friendship and strengthening linkages of the Luzon Cluster DA Employees. The cluster include Regions II, 4-B and CAR. Each Region took turns in hosting the team building event which started last April 2013 by DA-CAR while the 2nd and 3rd leg were hosted by Regions I and II respectively.

news food terminalAming to provide assistance to farmers and fisherfolk to increase their meager income in the production of agri-fishery commodities and have a ready market for their products, the Agribusiness and Marketing Assistance Division (AMAD) of the Department of Agriculture-Regional Field Office 1 headed by Ms. Christine De Leon (AMAD Chief – DA RFO 1) is tasked to spearhead the establishment of the 13th Municipal Food Terminal Project at Barangay Poblacion Sur, Caba, La Union.

news graduatesRecognizing their painstaking efforts and active participation in the conduct of the Rice and Corn         Production School on the Air Program (SOAP) of the Department of Agriculture – Regional Field Office 1, a total of 1,414 farmers from the provinces of La Union and Ilocos Sur received their certificates and awards as graduates of the School On-the Air Program of the Department.

Conducted on December 14, 2013 for the La Union graduates and December 21, 2013 for the Ilocos Sur     graduates, the graduation rites were held at the Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University in San Fernando City, La Union and Baluarte, Vigan City, Ilocos Sur respectively. Likewise, graduation for the provinces of Pangasinan and Ilocos Norte were set on January 14 & 21 next year.
