The Department of Agriculture-Regional Field Office I Bowlers Team emerged as the Champion under Class A Category in the 2013 Association of Regional Executives (AREX) Bowling Tournament.
The AREX Bowling Tournament is an Annual activity participated in by all National Government Agencies at the regional level. Aimed at fostering linkages and camaraderie while promoting strong partnership, building teamwork and sportsmanship among the employees of the government especially based at the regional office, the AREX bowling tournament started last June 21, 2013 and ended on November 21, 2013.
Led by AREX OIC-President Ave Munar, the bowling competition is held every Tuesdays and Thursdays, 4:00 PM at the Royal Bowling Center, Catbangen, San Fernando City, La Union.
During the championship game under the Class A Category played between and among the teams of Department of Agriculture (DA), Department of Education (DepEd), Department of Justice (DOJ) and Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), the DA's team headed by Regional Technical Director for Research and Regulations, Engr. Eduardo Gonzales subdued the teams of DepEd and DOJ at the earlier part of the game. At the final stage, DA's team have never unshaken by the throwing styles and cheers of the Public Works and Highways Team who landed as the First Runner-up. The DepEd and the DOJ bagged the second and third runners-up, respectively.
Aside from being the Champion, DA was also awarded as the highest Team Single for having scored a total of 551 points. Individuals who exemplified excellent performance in playing the game like Ms. Gloria Parong, the Regional Information Officer of DA-RFO I was awarded as the Highest Single and Highest Double Scorer under Female Category with her undisputable 129 score in a single play and 241 points in her two consecutive play of the game. Mr. Louie Rivera of the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) got the same awards under the male category.
Under the Class B Category, the bowlers of the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR), Philippine National Police (PNP), NCIP and Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) was awarded as Champion, first, second and third runners-up respectively. The Philippine Ports Authority, Land Transportation Office (LTO), Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, and Poro Point Corporation (PPC) emerged as the Champion, first, second and third runners-up, respectively.
For the last 3 decades of conducting the tournament, it was only this year that DA was included in the Class A category and emerged as the Champion.
